Welcome to Kabuki Acotor, Kikutaro Onoe's page.
Having spent part of my early childhood in South Africa, I am passionate about sharing the beauty of Kabuki with international audiences through English presentations and events.
Below are two videos introducing key aspects of Kabuki: an English lecture breaking down its three fundamental components—Ka (Song), Bu (Dance), and Ki (Skill)—and a step-by-step guide explaining traditional Kabuki makeup.

Kikutaro Onoe IV
Kabuki Actor. Born in Tokyo and raised in South Africa. During his early childhood, he was drawn to dance and musical theater from a young age before pursuing active theatrical work during his university years. It was during this time that he discovered Kabuki, which led him to join the Kabuki Actor Training Program at the National Theatre of Japan. He completed his training with the 20th graduating class in 2013.
In April of that year, he became a disciple of Kikugorou Onoe VII and made his professional stage debut at the Kabukiza Theatre as a captor (torite) in Benten Musume Meono Shiranami, taking the stage name Otozo Onoe. Specializing in dynamic stage combat (tachimawari), he went on to earn multiple National Theatre Special Awards during their annual New Year Kabuki performances.
In March 2024, he passed the Nadai (qualified actor) status examination held by the Organization for the Preservation of Traditional Kabuki. He officially achieved Nadai status at the Kabukiza Theatre in March 2026, assuming the name Kikutarou Onoe IV with performances as Momiji no Tsubone in Rokkasen Sugata no Irodori and Shimobe Shichisuke in Kiichi Hougen Sanryakukan: Kikubatake. Shortly after, he was cast in the prominent role of Sankichi in Sakana-ya Sogorou for the Shochiku Grand Kabuki National Tour.
